Are Belgian Malinois hard to train?
Belgian Malinois learn very quickly, which makes them easy to train and easy to train badly. Their intensity, speed, and drive mean unclear rules or inconsistent handling show up as problems fast. With structure and a clear outlet for drive, they are outstanding partners.

What does "high drive" mean?
High drive means a dog with strong, persistent motivation to chase, bite, retrieve, or work, and the stamina to keep going. It is not the same as hyperactivity; a high-drive dog with good training can switch off completely at home.
What does a Belgian Malinois need to be a good family dog?
A Malinois needs daily structured work (training, not just running), clear household rules, a trained "off switch" such as place, and appropriate outlets for drive like tug, retrieve, or sport. Exercise without structure often produces a fitter, more frantic dog.

PSA (Protection Sports Association) is a protection dog sport that tests obedience, control, and protection work in scenario-style trials. Titles include PSA 1, 2, and 3, and decoys are separately certified to work dogs safely and fairly.
